Executive Team
Steven W. Peters
President and CEO
Steve Peters manages all business aspects of Kuma, including contract administration totaling over seven figures. He is also an engineer with expertise in interference management, multi-antenna high frequency (HF) communications, channel coding, and embedded system design. Prior to founding Kuma with Robert Daniels, Steve worked on multi-antenna HF systems for the defense communications industry at the Applied Research Laboratories and served as a wireless communications consultant on projects encompassing all facets of system design. At Kuma, he has been the software design architect for the Karma software-defined radio platform, and created a DCAA-compliant accounting system. He has B.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Steve is a licensed amateur radio operator, a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), and the IEEE.
Dr. Robert C. Daniels
VP Engineering and CTO
Dr. Daniels guides the long term technical vision of Kuma and also supervises internal engineering projects/contracts. Currently, he is the principal investigator for Dillo, which has received $850,000 in funding from the U.S. Navy. Dr. Daniels' background is in the theory of wireless communications and its practical application. He is an expert on the physical layer design of multiple-antenna wireless communication systems and was the physical layer architect of an IEEE 802.11n MIMO-OFDM testbed at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Daniels is also an expert on the design of millimeter-wave communications systems and is the co-author of the textbook "60 GHz Wireless Communication Systems", to be published by Prentice Hall in 2012. He holds B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from The Pennsylvania State University and the M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Robert W. Heath, Jr.
CINO
As Chief Innovation Officer, Dr. Heath is responsible for identifying and cultivating new business opportunities at Kuma, particularly as they pertain to innovative and/or disruptive wireless technology. Dr. Heath is an internationally-recognized expert in the theory of wireless communications and signal processing and, notably, was a designer of the first commercial MIMO-OFDM system at Iospan Wireless, Inc. Since becoming a professor at the University of Texas at Austin (where he served as advisor for both Mr. Peters and Dr. Daniels), he has attracted millions of dollars in research funds and authored over one hundred peer-reviewed IEEE journal papers. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University under the supervision of Arogyaswami Paulraj. Dr. Heath is a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, and a Fellow of the IEEE.
